Firecrackers

Here's my latest 4th of July craft, firecrackers! Just in time for the holiday weekend.

It was really easy to make too. Just cut some wood of varying sizes, painted, decoupaged, and then used a little string to put it all together. I also used my cricut for the "usa" part. Now I just need to get working on the craft kits I ordered to make sure they are done in time for the 4th! Gotta get crafting!

And p.s. I am going to be posting my very first tutorial soon! I hope you are looking forward to it, because I am!

Summer Wreath

I have been crafting a lot lately! This wreath is one of my latest projects. I seriously have been looking for a while for something summery to put on my front door. I think I checked out about five different craft stores but didn't like anything I saw. So while I was at JoAnn's the other day I decided to take matters into my own hands and create my own door hanging. I came up with this wreath:

I feel it's summery enough with the bright yellow flowers. And you'll never guess how much this project cost me to make. Only $4! Just $2 for the wreath and $2 for the flowers. All I did was intertwined the flowers throughout the wreath and used a little hot glue to keep them in place. I then finished it off with a simple ribbon I had lying around. And voila! Cute spring/summer door hanging.

4th of July

I have been horrible at blogging lately! Life has just gotten so busy. But now I'm thinking 4th of July crafts!

I must show you a few craft kits I ordered from the Idea Closet. I love craft kits, they make my life so much easier. Sometimes it's nice to let someone else be the creative one and you just put it all together. Here's what I ordered...

America Blocks

Flag Kit

I can't wait for them to get here so I can make them! She also has a few other ideas. I think I am going to make my own rendition of her firecrackers. I'll post them once I'm done.

What else am I planning on making? A patriotic quilt! I've seen them all over the place and I love them. For some reason I am just loving red and blue together, I wish I could repaint my house and use those colors. These pictures are my inspiration. I hope my quilt turns out something like this...

What else do I want to make? Hmm... I saw this recipe for Watermelon Lemonade. Has anyone tried it? Is it good? It sounds interesting to me... Maybe I'll try it for a 4th of July BBQ.

I found the recipe here at Whole Foods Market.

Last one, I also love the look of this patriotic pie found on the Sunset magazine website. I also noticed similar looking pies on the cover of Martha Stewart Living this month. If you have any other patriotic ideas, I'd love to hear about them!

For Beginning Quilters

Have you ever wanted to make a quilt but weren't sure how? I definitely know I fit into that category! It's something I've always wanted to try, but where to start? Now I know after finding this fabulous tutorial at Obsessively Stitching. She tells you step by step how to make a quilt! I just got a new sewing machine and I'm always looking for new projects to work on. Making a quilt has always sounded like a huge project to me, but when I read her tutorial it didn't seem so bad. Check it out here.

This is the beautiful quilt she teaches you how to make...

I can't wait to try it!

Vinyl

I love when people use vinyl lettering to decorate. I think it's an easy way to add interest to a space. I have used vinyl lettering a few times and I would love to use it more. I recently came across this etsy shop that sells vinyl. They have some of the cutest vinyl cutouts I think I have ever seen. They do a lot more than just lettering. I thought I'd share, in case someone out there is looking for a fun way to spruce up a blank wall :).

Check out Janey Mac. Here are a few of my favorites...

They have lots of options! I told my husband one day when we have kids I'd love to buy some fun vinyl to decorate their rooms (they have lots of cute vinyl for kids). Anyway, just thought I'd pass along this awesome etsy shop.

For those of you that are not familiar with vinyl, it is really easy to use! Just follow the instructions you get with your vinyl on how to apply it. When you are ready to take it down, use a blow dryer and apply heat to the vinyl, this will make it easier to remove.
